Our newsroom

Most of our contributors are working New Yorkers — drivers, restaurant workers, residents — rather than career journalists. This is deliberate. We believe the city makes more sense to readers when it is reported by the people running it day-to-day.

How we hire and assign

• We consider applicants regardless of formal journalism experience.
• We do not require a college degree for any role.
