Corrections

How we handle factual errors after publication.

When USA Times publishes an error of fact, we correct it as soon as we are aware. The correction note explains what was wrong and when it was fixed. It remains on the article permanently.

How we correct

Corrections are appended at the bottom of the affected article. For substantive errors — misidentified subjects, misstated central facts, errors that affect the meaning of the story — we also add a note at the top.

Updates vs. corrections

An update reflects new reporting added after publication. A correction reflects an error in the original. Both are clearly dated and labeled.

Retractions

We retract a story in extraordinary circumstances: a central premise is wrong and cannot be repaired, a legal demand we are obliged to honor, or a story posted in error. When a story is retracted, a note remains at the URL explaining why.

How to report an error

If you believe we have published a factual error, write to corrections@usatimes.com with the URL, the specific sentence, and the correct information. We investigate every reported error and respond within three business days. See Request a Correction for the full process.
