A controversial 65-story residential tower received final approval Monday from the city planning commission, clearing the last major hurdle for a development that has divided Greenpoint residents for nearly three years.
The project, valued at $1.8 billion, will add 1,200 apartments to a neighborhood already struggling with rapidly rising rents.
